For all BVPA Board positions:

BVPA business is conducted primarily via Zoom Video Conferencing and/or telephone, with occasional in-person meetings.

Members of the Board are expected to:

1.  Attend monthly (virtual) meetings to have a quorum required for conducting Board business. 

2. Access their BVPA email account regularly (at least 2/week) and respond as requested.  Email forwarding to a secondary email address is available upon request.


BVPA Board Positions

FILLED


President

DUTIES: The president is the chief officer and spokesperson for the Association and acts on its behalf with the advice and consent of the Board of Directors. The President coordinates and provides direction for the Association, chairs meetings of the Executive Committee/Board of Directors and the yearly General Membership Meeting. The president also monitors financial planning and financial reports, appoints committee chairs/directors, assistant directors, and assistants, and sets the tone for the organization’s work towards its mission of enhancing mental health for practitioners and clients. In addition, the president directs and oversees the organization’s CEU events, including choosing presenters and awarding of CEUs.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year (typically starts with being President-Elect for one year, President for the middle year, and Past President for the third year)

TIME COMMITTMENT: Approximately 10-15 hours per month

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing who is licensed as a Psychologist.

President Elect 

DUTIES: The President-Elect acts in the absence of, or upon request of, the President, and will immediately occupy the position if vacated by the President. 

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year (typically starts with being President-Elect for one year, President for the middle year, and Past-President for the third year.)

TIME COMMITTMENT: Approximately 5-10 hours per month.

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing, licensed as a Psychologist, has leadership experience, and eager to take on more.

Past President  

DUTIES: Conducts elections and membership voting of the Association and assists the current president in monitoring and responding to emails. The Past President acts in the absence of, or upon request of, the President if the President-Elect is unable to do so. 

LENGTH OF SERVICE:  1 year (typically starts with being President-Elect for one year, President for the middle year, and Past-President for the third year.)

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 5 hours per month.

QUALIFICATIONS: A member in good standing who was President of BVPA the previous year.

Assistant President

DUTIES: May help with a variety of tasks, as needed by the President or President Elect. Examples could be assisting with CEU events, communicating with other professional organizations, or coordinating amongst other board members.

LENGTH OF SERVICE:  1 year 

TIME COMMITMENT: 2-4 hours per month.

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing.

Treasurer

DUTIES: Provide financial oversight, develop and monitor budgets, prepare and disseminate financial reports, establish internal controls; conduct internal audits, and maintain adherence to compliance requirements; disburse funds as approved by the Board of Directors and maintain accurate and timely records of the finances of the Association. The Treasurer will report the financial status of the Association at the Annual Membership Meeting, Board of Directors meetings, and as requested by the President.

LENGTH OF SERVICE:  2 years

TIME COMMITMENT: 8-12 hours per month

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing, familiar with the technology used to conduct the Association's financial business.

Assistant Treasurer 

DUTIES: Assist the Treasurer in all matters related to BVPA financial management, such as performing monthly bank statement reconciliations, making reports to the Board and the membership, keeping financial records, assist in fulfilling required tax and compliance responsibilities, and maintaining access to and use of technology used in the Association’s financial management. 

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year

TIME COMMITMENT: 6-8 hours per month.

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing, familiar with the technology used to conduct the Association’s financial business.

Secretary

DUTIES:  Responsible for keeping minutes of all meetings, managing board meeting agenda, providing notices of meetings, maintaining a record of Board actions, and maintaining the archival records of the Association.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 2 years

TIME COMMITMENT: 5 hours per month

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing with strong communication and organization skills, understanding of board governance, proficiency in record keeping and preparing minutes of meeting proceedings, and ability to disseminate information in a timely manner.

Assistant Secretary

DUTIES: Works with and supports the Secretary in keeping minutes, managing board meeting agenda, disseminating information to the board, and maintaining archival information.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year

TIME COMMITMENT: 5 hours per month

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing with organizational skills who enjoys making things happen.

Director of Legislation and Advocacy

DUITES: Responsible for staying current with, and sharing information about, legislation that affects the field of psychology and mental health of the public. The Director stays in touch with state licensure requirements, monitors changes, and may make recommendations to the Board of Directors and the membership for legislative advocacy.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year

TIME COMMITMENT: 3 hours per month

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing.

DUTIES: Works with and supports the Director of Legislation and Advocacy.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year

TIME COMMITMENT: 3 hours per month

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing who enjoys being in the know for what is happening in the "big picture" in the mental health field. A person who wishes to make a broader impact on the field of mental health. Then this could be the spot for you!

Director of Membership

DUTIES: Responsible for reviewing and approving membership applications, making connections with prospective members, and coordinating 3-4 informal social/networking events for BVPA members and prospective members.


LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year


TIME COMMITMENT: 3-5 hours per month


QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing with good organizational and planning skills, as well as a passion for making connections with others.

Assistant Director of Membership 

DUTIES: Assists the Director of Membership in planning, organizing and coordinating social events that foster networking, community-building, and active involvement for BVPA members. The assistant ensures that coffee shops are contacted and booked for upcoming social events.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 3 hours per month

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing. Important personal qualities include Communication skills (Communicate with members and vendors through emails, phone calls, and in-person interactions) and Organization Skills (Organized to handle responding to emails, manage event logistics, track membership data).

Director of  Communications 

DUTIES: Responsible for managing BVPA & social media accounts, advertising and promoting CEU's, overseeing volunteer marketing and newsletter editors, and managing website design and updates. Director of Communications reports to the President and communicates updates at monthly board meetings.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year

TIME COMMITMENT:  Approximately 10 hours per month (on average as some months require less commitment and other months require more).

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing who likes to spread the word, enjoys introducing people to new opportunities and professional horizons, has some social media and computer skills knowledge.

Assistant Director of  Communications 

DUTIES: Assists the Director of Communications and Publicity in managing BVPA’s social media accounts, advertising and promoting CEUs, and coordinating with volunteer marketing and newsletter editors. This role also includes supporting website updates and design efforts as needed. The Assistant Director may assist in delegating tasks to volunteers and ensures smooth communication between the Director, volunteers, and the Board.

LENGTH OF SERVICE: 1 year

TIME COMMITMENT: 4-6 hours per month, depending on the level of activity required

QUALIFICATIONS: A BVPA member in good standing. Important personal qualities for this position include strong creativity, effective communication skills, attention to detail, and excellent organization to manage content, timelines, and team collaboration efficiently.
