Leveraging Emotional Intelligence to Help Diverse Families in School and Outpatient Settings
by Adam Sáenz, Ph.D., LP, LSSP (3 CEUs)
Contributing presenters will include Kimberley Hudson, MEd., NCC, LPC and Emily Brewer, PhD, LP, LSSP, who will share their insights as they transitioned from treating children and families in school systems to treating them in outpatient clinical settings.
Program Description: The concept of emotional intelligence was introduced to mainstream America in the 1990s by American psychologist Dan Goleman in his book Emotional Intelligence. Since then, the idea has found wide-range application in corporate, clinical and schools settings. This seminar will provide an overview of various models of emotional intelligence and explore practical treatment strategies in clinical work with children and families. Some consider that emotional intelligence is culturally bound. For example, some cultures promote social harmony and engagement, while others promote the attainment of one's personal goals. We'll explore how both macro and micro cultures bear relevance to our understanding of emotional intelligence in the therapeutic process. We will also have an opportunity to explore aspects of Ethics and Diversity as we apply Emotional Intelligence principles to one or more case examples.
PLEASE NOTE: Dr. Saenz has generously offered to host this event as both a virtual and an in-person event, including lunch at no charge, at his office at Oakwood Counseling in Bryan, TX.
