Workshop Description:
Since the 1980s, the construct of multicultural counseling competence (mcc) has gained monumental traction—now to the point of having prominence in our profession’s literature, ideology, and training. Yet, considerable confusion persists surrounding the nature of mcc, while many providers struggle to beneficially incorporate culture into their service delivery. To this end, the purpose of the workshop is to provide guidance on mcc for the practice community.
Objectives:
1.) Chronicle the emergence of mcc within its historical context
2.) Analyze the sources of the construct’s confusion
3.) Reframe the definition and application of mcc
4.) Demonstrate mcc through an actual clinical case
