Save the date for an interesting and enlightening session on Telepsychology’s Role in Diverse, Rural Populations, with Dr. Carly McCord, Ph.D. In addition to expanding our skills in the use of teletherapy with a variety of populations, Dr. McCord's presentation will include a review of legal and ethical considerations when utilizing telehealth technology in the delivery of mental health services.

About the Speaker:
Carly McCord, Ph.D. is Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Telebehavioral Care at Texas A&M’s School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, as well as Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Education, Department of Educational Psychology. She is also the current Project Director of the Washington County telementalhealth Service to the Washington County Jail, which provides counseling to incarcerated individuals. Her work spans both research and practice, and includes supervision of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
In this presentation, Dr. McCord will address the following objectives:
- Review best practices for establishing ethical tele-services that provide a foundation for safety, effectiveness, and usability
- Learn about various telehealth models used at Texas A&M
- Understand disparities in mental health access and outcomes in rural areas and the Brazos Valley
- Gain a better understanding of telehealth disparities in age, geography, and ethnicity
- Review changes in policies due to the end of the PHE
Dr. McCord is an investigator on a number of competitive grants, with emphasis on serving rural, disadvantaged and culturally/linguistically diverse populations, which she will share in her presentation. Her current grants include:
